I fought and beat the guardian head on. I didnt have the special wand since i havent encounter tenebrium yet i think i may have jumped ahead. Anyways i have been playing without looking anything up. Then i realized i couldve tricked him into the lava pit but it wouldnt have been as satisfying and getting the Unique 3 head pitch fork two handed weapon and Epic arabalest would not have been as cool.
